About Me

My photo
Cynthia S.
The photo at the top of this page was taken while I was swimming with wild spinner dolphins near Captain Cook Monument on the Big Island of Hawaii. I love to travel to beautiful places. In May 2021, I retired after 22 years of teaching in Alaska. My husband and I are the proud parents of 2 children, ages 22 and 26. In the summer and early fall, our home is in McCarthy, Alaska. We run a lodging business (Currant Ridge) during the 100-day tourist season (from Memorial to Labor Day) During the winter and spring, we travel and devote time to hiking and visiting family members. As a teacher for 22 years, I spent 13 years as a kindergarten teacher, 2.5 years as an "Extended Learning Opportunities Program" (gifted and talented) teacher for students grades 2-12 and 5 years as an advisory teacher for homeschooling families and 1.5 years as a long-term substitute teacher while my kids were young.
